[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Ki-dong] Mokpo City announced on the 3rd that the Mokpo Indoor Swimming Pool, which had been closed due to COVID-19, will reopen from the 4th.

The city opened the facility following Jeollanam-do's easing of social distancing to Level 1, but stated that operations will continue in compliance with quarantine rules as there is still a risk of COVID-19 infection.

To this end, users must adhere to rules such as maintaining a distance of 2 meters (at least 1 meter) inside the swimming pool (including underwater) due to social distancing, refraining from physical contact and conversation between users, keeping distance in shower rooms and changing rooms, and minimizing the time spent at the facility.

The city will preemptively block symptomatic individuals through temperature checks and visitor records, and to disinfect the swimming pool, it will operate a break time from 12 PM to 1 PM for one hour for disinfection, ventilation, and water purification, providing a safe exercise space.

The indoor swimming pool shuttle bus will suspend operations for the entire month of August due to difficulty maintaining distancing inside the bus, and whether it will operate will be announced later depending on the COVID-19 situation.

Additionally, since social distancing is difficult during swimming lessons due to physical contact and conversation between instructors and students, only individual free swimming will be operated, and no lesson members will be recruited.

A Mokpo City official said, “During the closure period, we repaired the aging facilities of the Mokpo Indoor Swimming Pool so that citizens can use it safely,” and added, “We will operate step-by-step according to the situation until COVID-19 reaches a lull and ask for citizens’ understanding.”
