Dungeon & Fighter Mobile Nears 60 Million Pre-Registrations
Released First in China, to Launch Domestically Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] Nexon is expected to continue its mobile surge by launching "Dungeon & Fighter (DNF) Mobile" in China on the 12th. The mobile versions of "KartRider (Kart)" and "The Kingdom of the Winds," already released domestically, are gaining popularity riding the retro wave.
According to the gaming industry on the 3rd, Tencent, the publisher of DNF Mobile, will officially launch the service in China, the world's largest gaming market, on the 12th. Ahead of the official launch, from the 31st of last month until today, Tencent showcased DNF Mobile content and held an eSports tournament at "ChinaJoy 2020" held in Shanghai, China, demonstrating its presence.
DNF Mobile is a 2D action RPG based on the Dungeon & Fighter intellectual property (IP), which began domestic service in 2005 and entered China in 2008, establishing itself as a representative steady-seller game. With nearly 60 million pre-registrations, local reactions have been hot even before release. It will be released first in China this year and then introduced domestically next year.
Industry insiders predict that if DNF Mobile succeeds following Nexon's mobile game boom, achieving a record-breaking annual revenue of 3 trillion won could be possible. DNF is Nexon's flagship PC game with about 700 million members worldwide. It surpassed 5 million concurrent users in China and recorded a peak of 290,000 concurrent users in Korea. Due to this popularity, DNF generates over 1 trillion won in revenue annually and accounts for 40% of Nexon's total revenue and more than 90% of Nexon's revenue in China, making it Nexon's "cash cow."
Recently, Nexon's releases "KartRider Rush Plus" and "The Kingdom of the Winds: Yeon" have also shown success domestically. According to IGAWorks, KartRider Rush Plus, launched in May, recorded a daily active user (DAU) count of 1,059,795 as of July 23, ranking first among mobile games. "The Kingdom of the Winds: Yeon," released on the 15th of last month, rose to second place in daily revenue as of July 23, fueled by strong popularity among users in their 20s.
