[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] It has been confirmed that a teenage boy who went missing on an island in Malaysian territory was sacrificed to a 4.7-meter-long crocodile.
According to multiple Malaysian media reports on the 1st (local time), Ricky (14) went missing on the 26th of last month while catching snails by the river with friends in the village of Sarikei, Sarawak, on the Malaysian part of Borneo Island. Witnesses reported, "It seems the crocodile dragged him away."
After receiving the report, dozens of people including Malaysian fire authorities, police officers, and residents formed teams and conducted focused search operations by boat, but Ricky was not found even after six days.
Eventually, on the 31st of last month, the crocodile was caught in bait and traps set by the search team. The captured crocodile was a large one, measuring 4.7 meters in body length and 1.7 meters in width. When the search team cut open the crocodile's belly, they confirmed some of Ricky's clothes and parts of his body that he was wearing at the time of disappearance.
Meanwhile, it is known that accidents involving crocodiles dragging people away and causing disappearances often occur on Borneo Island.
On the 24th of last month, a man in his 40s who was rowing a boat by the river in the nearby Sri Aman village was also dragged away and went missing due to a crocodile attack. On March 19th, a man working by the river was also dragged away and went missing by a crocodile.
