Guro-gu Collaborates with Universities and Companies to Revitalize Lifelong Vocational Education

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) is joining hands with universities and companies to revitalize lifelong vocational education.

Guro-gu recently signed a business agreement with universities and companies located in Seoul to establish and operate a 'Regional Vocational Education Hub Center,' planning to utilize the excellent resources of each institution to provide residents with various vocational education programs.

To prevent COVID-19, the agreement was conducted online and involved Dongyang Mirae University (President Jeong Wan-seop, Guro-gu), Hanyang Women's University (President Na Seri, Seongdong-gu), and the optical equipment manufacturer 'Glonic' (CEO Kim Woo-jun, Geumcheon-gu), among others.

According to the agreement, participating institutions will form an industry-government-academia governance council starting in August to focus on the establishment and operation of the Regional Vocational Education Hub Center.

The 'Regional Vocational Education Hub Center' will serve as a lifelong vocational education hub institution within the local community. Based on the educational needs of local residents, it will develop and operate customized vocational education programs such as ICT field practice, social ventures, total fashion design, and care and welfare service experts.

Additionally, it will provide personalized online and offline career planning and counseling, learning history management, and support the formation and operation of learning groups for local residents.

A Guro-gu official stated, "We expect that this agreement will provide many residents with opportunities for reemployment or to enhance their work capabilities within their jobs," adding, "We will work together with participating institutions to ensure smooth project progress."
