From August 3, Rapid Electric Vehicle Chargers to be Pilot Operated at Dongdaemun-gu Gymnasium Parking Lot... Responding to Growing Electric Vehicle Demand... Enhancing Resident Accessibility and Convenience through Charging Infrastructure... Expected to Promote Electric Vehicle Use and Distribution
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yu Deok-yeol) has recently installed additional electric vehicle fast chargers to respond to the increasing demand for electric vehicles.
The district announced that it has installed additional electric vehicle fast chargers in the parking lot of Dongdaemun-gu Sports Complex and will operate them on a trial basis starting from the 3rd of next month. While there are 265 electric vehicles registered in the district, there are only 11 fast chargers, which is insufficient.
Accordingly, the district installed additional fast chargers to secure charging infrastructure and promote the use and distribution of electric vehicles.
Although 31 slow chargers are also installed in the district, charging takes a long time, causing difficulties for electric vehicle users to charge smoothly. Fast chargers can charge in about 30 minutes, which is much faster compared to slow chargers that take about 4 hours. Due to the high demand for fast charging among electric vehicle users, the number of installations has been limited because of the expensive installation costs.
The district plans to invest a total of 150 million KRW by the end of this year to install electric vehicle fast chargers, securing charging infrastructure to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles.
After reviewing sites that can be publicly open 24 hours and provide one parking space for electric vehicle charging, the parking lot of Dongdaemun-gu Sports Complex was selected as the priority installation site.
The district will conduct a trial operation from August 3rd to 16th to check for normal operation and will begin full operation from the 17th.
The charging cost is 240 KRW/kW, but charging will be free during the trial operation period.
The district plans to install one additional electric vehicle fast charger at the Baebongsan Park resident-priority parking lot in September.
Yu Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “We have installed additional electric vehicle fast chargers to actively respond to the increasing demand for electric vehicles. We will continue to provide various support to secure electric vehicle charging infrastructure and build a sustainable eco-friendly city.”
