General Baek Sun-yeop's Burial Ceremony as Scheduled... Court Dismisses Injunction Prohibiting Burial at National Cemetery

[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The request for a provisional injunction filed by the Institute for Research in Collaborationist Activities to prohibit the burial of the late General Baek Seon-yeop at the National Daejeon Cemetery was rejected on the 15th. Due to the court's dismissal, the burial ceremony proceeded as scheduled that morning.

The 1st Administrative Division of the Daejeon District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Young-hwa) dismissed the 'Provisional Injunction to Prohibit the Burial of Pro-Japanese Anti-National Actor Baek Seon-yeop at Daejeon National Cemetery' filed by the Daejeon branch of the Institute for Research in Collaborationist Activities against the government. The court stated, "It is not possible to seek prohibition of administrative actions through a civil provisional injunction, and under the Administrative Litigation Act, a suspension of execution requires that the main lawsuit has been filed, which is not the case here, making it inappropriate."

Earlier, the government announced that the burial ceremony for General Baek Seon-yeop would be held as a military funeral at 11:30 a.m. that day at the National Daejeon Cemetery. In response, the Daejeon branch of the Institute for Research in Collaborationist Activities submitted a provisional injunction request to the court the previous day, seeking to prohibit the burial of General Baek Seon-yeop at the National Daejeon Cemetery, as he is listed as a pro-Japanese anti-national actor.
