[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Famous American rapper Pop Smoke (20) was killed by intruding robbers after posting photos of his house on social media.
According to ABC News on the 9th, the Los Angeles Police Department in California announced that five suspects who broke into rapper Pop Smoke's Hollywood Hills residence in February and shot him to death have been arrested.
Sergeant Jonathan Tippett stated that the three men and two teenagers arrested on that day likely identified the location of Pop Smoke's house through photos he had posted on social networking services (SNS) in the past, and then committed the crime.
Sergeant Tippett explained, "At the beginning of the investigation, we thought it was a simple robbery case, but later found additional evidence showing that the burglary led to the robbery." He added that the suspects probably used the photos posted on social media to locate Pop Smoke's house.
Earlier, Pop Smoke had exposed his location by posting photos on SNS, such as posing in the swimming pool in the backyard of his mansion and images of the LA skyline. He even posted pictures of a gift bag with the address written on it and a car photo with the house number visible on the wall in the background.
The group arrested as suspects is known to belong to the same violent gang in the LA area.
Meanwhile, Pop Smoke debuted in 2018 and began gaining attention with last year's release of "Welcome to the Party," collaborating with artists such as Travis Scott and Jackboys.
