Dobong-gu Online Lecture on "Human Changes Viewed Through Guns, Germs, and Steel"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) Hakmaeul Library has been selected for the '2020 Humanities Reading Academy Project' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Publication Culture Industry Promotion Agency.

The Humanities Reading Academy is a project that supports the promotion of humanities spirit and the spread of local reading culture through humanities lectures in connection with 85 regional cultural facilities such as public libraries, cultural centers, and non-profit private organizations.

With this project selection, Dobong-gu Hakmaeul Library plans to create a fresh wave of humanities in Dobong-gu through integrative humanities lectures combining science and history for adults from July to October.

Under the theme "Changes in Humanity Viewed through Wood (Environment), Germ (Virus), and Steel (Tools)," the lectures will look at global wars and battles against viruses from a humanities perspective, accompanied by various unconventional related books.

The lectures will be held online in a non-face-to-face format every Saturday from July 11 to October 31.

The program consists of three themes over 15 sessions: ▲1st theme: "Changes in Humanity Viewed through Environmental Conditions" ▲2nd theme: "Changes in Humanity Viewed through Germs and Viruses" ▲3rd theme: "Changes in Humanity Viewed through War and Weapons."

The program is for adults and participation is free. Each theme will recruit 50 participants on a first-come, first-served basis through the Dobong-gu Integrated Library website.

A representative of the Dobong Cultural Foundation said, "This lecture is welcome news for our residents who are feeling cultural thirst due to COVID-19, and we hope this Humanities Reading Academy project will greatly help not only humanities but also the promotion of reading culture."
