[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] Actor Shin Hyun-joon (51) has expressed his feelings after his former manager, CEO Kim, claimed to have suffered from Shin's power harassment for 13 years. Shin released an official statement saying he was "deeply shocked."
On the 9th, through his agency, Shin stated, "I also have many grievances and difficulties, but I will not go into details," adding, "If there were unresolved grudges or complaints, it would have been better to meet and talk directly. It is regrettable."
He explained, "Before being a manager, CEO Kim was a friend of the same age whom I have known since we were twenty. How formal could we have been?" He added, "Terms like 'this bastard' were used naturally and without formality, and that friend also treated me the same way."
He continued, "As friends, we often greeted each other's mothers, and I also provided individual help for a sick member of CEO Kim's family." He added that CEO Kim stopped working as Shin's manager 6 to 7 years ago and that contact has since been lost.
Earlier, CEO Kim claimed in an interview with Sports Today that he was unfairly treated while working as Shin's manager.
According to the report, CEO Kim said he did not receive an appropriate salary while working as Shin's manager and suffered power harassment from Shin's family.
CEO Kim also alleged that Shin frequently used abusive language such as "Do you have incompetence disease?" and "leper," and released some text message records exchanged with Shin in the past.
The following is the full official statement from Shin Hyun-joon's side:
Shin Hyun-joon said, "I was deeply shocked." In any relationship between two people who have worked together for many years, why would there be no conflicts or grievances? However, if one party lists only parts of those many years' stories under the name of 'exposure,' please understand that it can become another form of violence.
Actor Shin Hyun-joon said, "I also had many grievances and difficulties while working with him for 13 years, but I will not reveal any incidents or problems under the name of 'rebuttal.' If there were unresolved grudges or complaints, it would have been better to meet and talk directly. It is regrettable."
"(Kim) XX was a friend of the same age whom I have known since we were twenty, before he was a manager. How formal could male friends be? Terms like 'this bastard' were used naturally and without formality, and that friend also treated me the same way."
Regarding CEO Kim XX's claim that he "also ran errands or fulfilled requests from Shin Hyun-joon's mother," Shin said, "Because we were friends, we often greeted each other's mothers. I also provided individual help for a sick member of (Kim) XX's family. Our relationship went beyond a simple actor-manager one, extending to personal family support."
(Kim) XX stopped working as Shin Hyun-joon's manager 6 to 7 years ago. "I worked with XX for 13 years since 1990, breaking up and reuniting several times. After he quit, he changed his phone number, and Shin Hyun-joon could not contact him, even trying to find his number."
Regarding reports that Shin has about 20 managers, this is not true. The stylists, makeup artists, and other staff currently living and working with him have all maintained a relationship for over 10 years and are precious colleagues.
Finally, Shin apologizes for causing concern to many people due to this situation and promises to work even more diligently in the future.
