[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Singer Yang Joon-il acknowledged rumors of divorce and remarriage and clarified that he does not have a daughter, but additional posts disputing this have been published.
Yang Joon-il appeared on the MBC Every1 variety show 'Video Star' aired on the 7th, where he addressed rumors surrounding his divorce, remarriage, and a hidden daughter.
Yang Joon-il opened by saying, "It is a well-known fact that I was married in the past," adding, "I lived married in Korea, and my marriage history is undeniable."
He continued, "Divorce and remarriage are true, but the rumor that I have a high school daughter is false," explaining, "She is not my daughter. My ex-wife remarried someone else and had a daughter. I separated from my ex-wife in the 2000s. I heard the daughter is in high school, but if she were mine, she would be at least twenty years old."
Regarding suspicions that his current wife was unaware of his remarriage history when they married, he said, "My wife is someone I will share my life with, so how could I build a relationship on lies? Everything would collapse," adding, "Of course, my wife knows about my past marriage and divorce history. I'm not foolish enough to hide that."
After the broadcast, posts rebutting Yang Joon-il's explanation appeared online.
Netizen A introduced themselves in a YouTube comment section as "the person who exposed Yang Joon-il's past around last March" and continued to reveal information about Yang Joon-il.
A explained, "Yang Joon-il's daughter was a high school student around 2018, so I think she would be an adult by now," and added, "The ex-wife works as a bartender at a Korean bar in Guam. Yang Joon-il's ex-wife wants to live with her daughter, but she has no place to stay and not enough money, so she cried all the time."
They continued, "Yang Joon-il's daughter really looks exactly like him," warning, "Why am I exposing this? Whether my comment will have a huge impact or just remain an unfounded rumor, time will reveal all the facts."
While acknowledging, "Anyone can get divorced," they criticized Yang Joon-il, saying, "How nice it would have been if you had helped your former family even a little, even if you had to avoid others' eyes. I criticize you solely for that reason."
