[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 8th that it is promoting special monitoring and crackdown activities on environmental pollution acts.
The crackdown targets 14 business sites, including wastewater discharge facilities and wastewater consignment treatment facilities, where there is concern about long-term storage and neglect of pollutants.
After a guidance period last month, Jangseong-gun has formed a crackdown team of 3 members in 1 unit and is conducting intensive inspections starting this month.
The county will conduct special crackdowns on illegal discharge of pollutants such as intentional unauthorized discharge until early next month and strengthen patrols in suspicious areas.
In addition, water quality is being measured in rivers and drainage channels near wastewater discharge facilities, and pollutant sources are being traced and investigated if necessary.
Furthermore, environmental basic facilities and landfill sites, where poor management or algal bloom is a concern during heavy rainfall, are also being inspected.
A Jangseong-gun official stated, “We plan to conduct intensive crackdowns on key monitoring areas such as around industrial complexes,” adding, “Strict measures such as administrative actions and prosecutions will be taken against businesses found violating environmental laws, and thorough follow-up management will be pursued.”
