[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Department responded an average of 425 times per day this year.
On the 8th, according to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon), analysis of rescue and emergency medical service activities in the first half of this year showed a total of 77,188 dispatches and 38,981 people rescued or transported by emergency medical services.
Jeonnam Fire Department provided fire services an average of 425 times daily (72 rescues and 353 emergency medical services) to citizens in urgent situations.
The 119 ambulance teams, who provide emergency treatment and transport patients, received 64,151 reports, accounting for 83% of total dispatches in the first half, transporting 37,166 emergency patients, conducting one emergency medical activity every 4 minutes.
In particular, among 679 transported cardiac arrest patients, 67 were revived, showing a cardiac arrest patient survival rate of 9.9%. This is a 2.6% improvement compared to last year.
By patient type, emergency dispatches for diseases such as acute and chronic illnesses were the highest at 22,320 cases (60.1%), followed by accident injuries at 8,059 cases (21.7%), and traffic accidents at 5,101 cases (13.7%).
The 119 rescue teams, active at various disaster sites such as water accidents and traffic accidents, responded 13,037 times, an increase of 404 cases (3.2%) compared to the same period last year, rescuing 1,815 precious lives.
By accident type, traffic accidents were the most frequent with 709 people (39%), followed by elevator entrapment accidents with 298 people (16.4%), and lock release incidents with 197 people (10.8%).
By age group, those in their 60s accounted for 345 people (19%), 50s for 285 people (15.7%), and 30s for 207 people (11.4%).
The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters analyzes that the increase in rescue cases this year is due to the intensified avoidance of public transportation caused by COVID-19, leading to increased private car usage and resulting traffic accidents.
Ma Jaeyoon, Chief of Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, said, “To provide high-quality fire services, we plan to additionally deploy 25 ambulances to rural fishing villages this year and expand rescue training facilities. We will do our best to protect the lives and property of residents by carefully analyzing statistical data and establishing safety measures.”
