[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Ki-dong] Mokpo City announced on the 8th that it has issued an administrative order to prohibit gatherings at all 107 door-to-door sales businesses in Mokpo City (20 sponsor door-to-door sales locations, 87 door-to-door sales businesses) until the 19th to prevent the rapidly spreading COVID-19 cluster infections.
The government implemented an administrative order restricting gatherings at door-to-door sales businesses following the designation of additional high-risk facilities on the 23rd of last month.
Mokpo City strengthened the administrative order to prohibit gatherings as Jeollanam-do elevated social distancing to level 2 and COVID-19 spread recently in Gwangju.
Accordingly, door-to-door sales businesses are prohibited from any activities that gather people at business sites or promotional centers for sales and promotion purposes.
The city plans to take legal action against businesses and users who do not comply with the administrative measures and will claim compensation for hospitalization, treatment, and quarantine costs if confirmed cases occur.
A full survey of the 87 door-to-door sales businesses in the area is underway, and continuous and intensive inspections regarding violations of the gathering ban will be conducted in cooperation with the police and others.
A Mokpo City official stated, “Due to the recent occurrence of multiple confirmed cases related to door-to-door sales businesses in Gwangju, considering the trend of COVID-19 infection spread, we decided on this measure to prevent transmission to the local community,” and added, “We ask for the active cooperation of both users and business operators.”
