[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] GS25 is launching a variety of products on the 9th with the "Dundeunhan" series, using duck and chicken (Gye, 鷄), popular ingredients in health-boosting foods, to mark the Sambok (伏) season.
The "Ori Deok-e Dundeunhan Dosirak," which will be sold only until Malbok, uses smoked duck as the main ingredient to boost energy. It features grilled mushroom and chive at the base, with smoked duck and two pieces of grilled sweet pumpkin. The price is 5,000 won.
They also introduce "Gye Dundeunhan Spicy Steamed Chicken," "Gye Dundeunhan Chogye Guksu," and "Gye Dundeunhan Konjac Salad," which use chicken, a representative health food in summer. In particular, the "Gye Dundeunhan Spicy Steamed Chicken" is a single-serving dish made for solo diners from a steamed chicken dish usually ordered for two or more people. With a total weight of 410g, it uses chicken as the main ingredient along with plenty of glass noodles, rice cakes, and vegetables, making it suitable as both a snack and a meal substitute. The price is 4,900 won.
The "Gye Dundeunhan Chogye Guksu" and "Gye Dundeunhan Konjac Salad," offered as summer delicacies, are unique menus available only in summer and are expected to stimulate customers' appetites. The prices are 3,800 won and 4,500 won, respectively.
According to an analysis of 2019 sales data by GS Retail, which operates the convenience store GS25, health-boosting food products such as Samgyetang, Chueotang, and Sagol Gomtang accounted for 32.2% of total sales during the Sambok season (about 50 days from 10 days before Chobok to 10 days after Malbok). The company explained that convenience store health-related products have improved in quality to a premium level and gained popularity due to the convenience of enjoying them at home with simple cooking.
