Dongjak-gu Operates Wise Home-Stay Healing Mental Rehabilitation Program

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is operating the 'Wise Home Healing Mental Rehabilitation' program for registered members of the Dongjak-gu Mental Health Welfare Center in response to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

The district planned the program to provide psychological stability by offering various rehabilitation programs such as art, emotional, and social skills training to mental illness patients who have to spend long hours at home due to social distancing, aiming to relieve depression and prevent relapse of mental symptoms.

The offered programs include ▲Healing Coloring Art (art therapy) ▲Healing Gardening Therapy (plant growing) ▲Healing Memory Toktok (puzzle solving) ▲Healing Home Cook, four types in total. In July, participants will be selected from center-registered members, and experience kits and activity sheets will be distributed.

Participants who receive the experience kits can participate in the program during the designated period, and after completing the experience, they submit the kits to their case managers and receive new program experience kits to rejoin the program.

The district plans to hold an exhibition of works within the center at the end of the year and will comprehensively evaluate using pre- and post- (MAP_SR Motivation and Enjoyment Self-Scale) scales, case management by case managers (phone and visit), and monitoring. Outstanding participants will receive small gifts.

Since February, the district has been providing psychological counseling services with 15 mental health professionals at the Dongjak-gu Mental Health Welfare Center (253-3 Sadang-ro) and the Mind Health Center (140 Noryangjin-ro, Megastudy Tower 2nd floor) as psychological quarantine for residents, and face-to-face counseling is supported upon request.

The specific counseling areas include ▲psychological characteristics and responses to infectious disease anxiety ▲provision of psychological stabilization content and stabilization technique videos ▲education on infection prevention rules.

Based on counseling results, individuals diagnosed as high-risk according to the Disaster Mental Health Assessment Scale (CGI-S) are linked to the National Trauma Center, Seoul COVID Psychological Support Team, and other regional mental medical institutions. Up to June, 187 residents have used the psychological quarantine services.

Residents wishing to use the psychological quarantine services can contact the Dongjak-gu Mental Health Welfare Center or the Mind Health Center.

Kim Hyung-sook, Director of the Health Management Division, said, “We will support residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic to overcome difficult times through psychological quarantine and quickly return to daily life,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to discover mental health promotion projects.”
