Yoo Hee-sook, Iksan Deputy Mayor, Takes Swift Steps to Secure National Budget Iksan City Hall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jae-hee] Iksan City, Jeonbuk Province, is making brisk efforts, including visiting central government departments daily, to achieve the maximum target for next year's national budget.

On the 7th, Yoo Hee-sook, Deputy Mayor and head of the National Budget T/F team, visited the Government Sejong Complex to actively request attention and budget support so that major regional projects can be reflected in next year's national budget.

This visit was made to utilize the last opportunity for budget increases through central government departments at the point when the Ministry of Economy and Finance's first round of budget cuts was completed last month and the second round of budget increase deliberations was becoming full-fledged.

On the day, Deputy Mayor Yoo met consecutively with the Budget Director and the General Budget Review Officer of the Ministry of Economy and Finance to propose the prompt promotion and inclusion in next year's budget of projects such as the Pyeongtaek~Buyeo~Iksan Western Inland Expressway and the construction of the National Road No. 27 alternative bypass road (Seosu~Pyeongjang).

She then visited the Economic Budget Review Officer of the Ministry of Economy and Finance to explain the establishment project of the Hologram Material and Component Demonstration Development Support Center.

During the meeting with the Welfare and Safety Budget Review Officer, she explained the necessity of the National Infectious Disease Research Institute and the National Rare Disease Medical Center, emphasizing that Iksan City is the optimal location for new infectious disease research and that this project must be promoted at the national level.

In addition, she explained regional environmental improvement projects such as the purchase of livestock barns in Wanggung Industrial Complex, ecological restoration projects, and the illegal waste disposal project at the Iksan abandoned quarry, requesting active government cooperation.

Deputy Mayor Yoo Hee-sook said, “In a situation where local governments nationwide are facing an emergency in local finances due to COVID-19, the national budget is increasingly emphasized as the only breakthrough,” adding, “To overcome fierce competition, we will secure advantageous positions for the region and firmly protect projects essential for the future of Iksan.”
