One Employee of Gwangsan-gu Comprehensive Social Welfare Center in Gwangju Reported for Subsidy Embezzlement

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 7th that it has reported an employee A of a comprehensive social welfare center in the district to the police on charges of embezzling subsidies.

The district discovered non-compliance with operational standards and areas for improvement in the ‘e-Naradoom System’ at a comprehensive social welfare center in the district through internal reports and special inspections conducted the day before.

The ‘e-Naradoom System’ is a computerized network introduced by the central government in 2017 to transparently manage national subsidies.

Employee A exploited the fact that subsidy transfers could be approved by a single person in charge and has been transferring funds to their own bank account since March. The embezzled amount totals 326.57 million KRW in subsidies over 35 transactions.

It was also confirmed that the comprehensive social welfare center did not follow the procedures required to verify such expenditures in advance.

Upon confirming these facts through the special inspection, the district immediately began inspections of 26 facilities using the ‘e-Naradoom System,’ including senior welfare centers and disability welfare centers. At the same time, it requested improvements to the ‘e-Naradoom System’ from the central government.

A Gwangsan-gu official said, “We apologize for causing concern to the citizens. We will thoroughly review the matter from beginning to end to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.”
