Daegu District Prosecutors' Office Forms Special Investigation Team for the Late Choi Sook-hyun's Death Case

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Daegu District Prosecutors' Office has formed a special investigation team regarding the death of the late triathlete Choi Sook-hyun.

According to the legal community on the 7th, the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office announced that it expanded the existing investigation team to a total of 14 members, led by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Yang Seon-soon of the Women and Children Crime Investigation Division, including four prosecutors specializing in child abuse and five professional investigators from the investigation department, to form the special investigation team.

The special investigation team also established a separate victim support team to provide psychological counseling for the bereaved families, crime victim relief funds, living expenses, and legal assistance.

Before taking her own life, Choi filed a complaint against the coach of the Gyeongju City Triathlon Team, accusing him of abuse. The Gyeongbuk Gyeongju Police Station recently investigated this and sent the case to the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office Gyeongju Branch with a recommendation for prosecution.

However, since most of the perpetrators, bereaved families, and other related parties reside in the jurisdiction of the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office headquarters, the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office took over the case last month.
