[Featured Stocks] Rise in Ujeong Bio and Related Stocks Amid News of Pest Outbreak in China

[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Related stocks are stirring following news of a suspected case of plague (Black Death) in the Inner Mongolia region of China.


At 9:06 AM on the 6th, Woojeong Bio traded at 8,300 KRW, up 8% from the previous close. Samsung Pharmaceutical (2.7%) and Shinpung Pharmaceutical (1.52%) also showed upward trends.


According to Chinese media reports, a hospital in the Inner Mongolia region announced on the 4th that a patient suspected of having "bubonic plague" was identified. In response, the Inner Mongolia authorities issued a level 3 alert for the area.


The plague is a deadly infectious disease that can lead to death within 24 hours if untreated. It is classified into △bubonic plague △pneumonic plague △septicemic plague. In the case of the suspected bubonic plague patient, infection mainly occurs through bites from infected mammals or fleas, with symptoms such as chills, fever over 38 degrees Celsius, muscle pain, joint pain, and headache appearing after an incubation period of 2 to 6 days.
