[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City will operate a residential treatment center for asymptomatic and mild COVID-19 patients starting from the 6th, in preparation for the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and its resurgence.
On the 5th, the city announced that it will operate the Metropolitan Area 1 Residential Treatment Center located at the Gyeonggi Gwangju Employment and Labor Training Institute, in accordance with the government's plan to establish a joint response system for COVID-19 beds in the metropolitan area.
The residential treatment center is a living support facility for treating asymptomatic and mild patients, first introduced in Daegu last March. About 40 personnel, including city officials, medical staff, police officers, and soldiers, will be assigned to the Metropolitan Area 1 Residential Treatment Center.
Incheon City has secured and operated a total of 394 beds across three facilities, including nationally designated isolation beds and infectious disease specialized hospitals, as well as 10 facilities such as contact isolation centers and temporary waiting facilities to respond to COVID-19.
Jo Donghee, Director of Administrative Management Bureau of Incheon City, stated, "Since a long-term battle with COVID-19 is expected until treatments and vaccines are developed, we will make every effort to ensure the staffing and operation of the residential treatment centers."
