[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The Qatar Ministry of Health announced on the 4th (local time) that the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) increased by 530 from the previous day to 99,183.

The Ministry of Health stated that the daily new confirmed cases are decreasing, claiming, "Thanks to quarantine policies that prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have flattened the 'COVID-19 curve' and succeeded in limiting virus transmission."

Looking at the trend of daily new confirmed cases in Qatar, the number rose to 2,355 on May 30, then dropped below 1,000 on the 26th of last month, and has been steadily declining since.

The daily new confirmed cases on this day (530) were the lowest in 74 days since April 21. The average daily confirmed cases over the past week is 789.

Since the daily positivity rate (10.9%) is lower than that on May 30 (46.8%), when the number of new confirmed cases was highest, it can be interpreted that the spread of COVID-19 has calmed down numerically.

Qatar has the highest cumulative confirmed cases per population in the world. As of this day, the cumulative confirmed cases account for 3.5% of the total population (2.81 million), reaching about 35,000 cases per 1 million people.
