National Institute of Technology and Standards "Challenge to Correct Units Posters and Videos in Daily Life"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 5th that it will hold the '2020 Proper Unit Usage Contest.' This is to establish the correct use of legal units such as length (m) and mass (kg) in daily life.
The contest will be held from the 6th until September 13. All domestic elementary, middle, high school, and university students, as well as the general public, can participate.
Participants are encouraged to use legal units such as 'meter' and 'kilogram' instead of non-legal units like 'pyeong,' 'don,' and 'inch,' and create posters (for elementary students) or videos (for middle and high school students and the general public) introducing international base units.
Submissions should be made to the National Institute of Technology and Standards' legal unit promotion blog.
Two grand prizes (one poster and one UCC) will receive the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award, and 22 excellence and outstanding awards will receive the Director of the National Institute of Technology and Standards Award. A total prize money of 6.35 million KRW will be awarded.
The winning works will be selected by combining the results of written evaluations by expert judges (September) and public online voting (Gwanghwamun 1st Street).
Awarding will take place at the '2020 Measurement Day Event' on October 26.
Lee Seungwoo, Director of the National Institute of Technology and Standards, said, "It is important to make the use of legal units a part of daily life to establish fair trade order and protect consumers' daily lives."
He added, "To proactively respond to the post-COVID-19 era, we will continue efforts not only to raise students' awareness of the importance of legal units but also to establish a culture of correct unit usage among the public."
