[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] France has allowed visa-free entry for people coming from Korea to France, following the recommendation of the European Union (EU) Council.

According to the French Embassy in Korea on the 3rd (local time), people entering France from Korea are not subject to the entry restrictions that were implemented in France to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The French Embassy in Korea announced on the same day, "After consultation with EU member states, the French government has decided to gradually reopen the external borders of the Schengen Agreement countries starting July 1."

Accordingly, regardless of nationality, people entering France from 13 countries including Korea, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and Thailand are not subject to entry restrictions. Travelers coming from Korea to France can enter without a visa if their stay is less than 90 days.

However, the French government plans to review the short-term visa-free entry allowance every 15 days based on the COVID-19 situation in Korea. The French Embassy in Korea urged, "France may restrict visa-free entry for Koreans in the future, so please check once again before traveling."

Earlier, on the 30th of last month, the EU Council recommended member states to lift entry restrictions for about 10 countries including Korea, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and Thailand.
