The National Intangible Heritage Center announced on the 3rd that it will hold a special lecture by a distinguished scholar ahead of the World Intangible Cultural Heritage Forum in September. The lecturer is Choi Jaecheon, Chair Professor at Ewha Womans University. On the 7th at 2 p.m., he will give a lecture titled "Ecological Transition in the Post-COVID Era and the Future of Intangible Cultural Heritage" at the International Conference Hall. He will emphasize the importance of coexistence with living beings in nature and ecology, which has emerged as a key topic following the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Through a dialogue with Cheon Jin-gi, former director of the National Jeonju Museum, they will also explore the relationship between nature and intangible cultural heritage.

Professor Choi, an advisory member of the World Intangible Cultural Heritage Forum, is one of Korea's leading sociobiologists. A disciple of Edward Wilson, the founder of sociobiology, he translated Wilson's book "Consilience." In response to the COVID-19 crisis, he has advocated for appropriate distancing from nature and coined terms such as "ecological vaccine" and "behavioral vaccine." The special lecture will be broadcast live on the Jeonju MBC YouTube channel. For more details, please refer to the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Intangible Cultural Heritage Center website.
