Energy Corporation 40th Anniversary... "Will Become Korea's Happy Energy"

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Energy Agency (KEA) held a commemorative event on the 2nd at its headquarters in Ulsan to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The agency was established on July 4, 1980, as an institution dedicated to national energy-saving projects.

This followed the increased importance of energy conservation after the second oil crisis in the late 1970s.

Since then, interest in alternative energy has grown, leading to the establishment of the affiliated New and Renewable Energy Center in February 2003 to promote the use and dissemination of new and renewable energy.

In July 2005, a greenhouse gas reduction performance registry was opened to respond to climate change tasks.

Since 2010, the agency has been designated as the Green Building Center and established the Vehicle Fuel Efficiency Center, managing energy demand across sectors such as industry, buildings, and transportation, thereby establishing itself as a specialized energy and climate change institution.

To commemorate its 40th anniversary, the agency adopted the catchphrase, "KEA 40 Years Together with the People, Becoming the Happy Energy of the Republic of Korea."

Kim Changseop, the agency's chairman, said, "So far, the agency has achieved concrete results in creating quality jobs, strengthening support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and revitalizing the local economy," adding, "We will continue to realize social value as a public institution."
