[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] On the 2nd, Jeonnam Muan-gun announced that on the 30th of last month, the Anti-Relocation of Muan Combat Airfield Pan-Citizen Countermeasure Committee (hereinafter Muan Committee) and the Anti-Relocation of Hwaseong Combat Airfield Pan-Citizen Countermeasure Committee (hereinafter Hwaseong Committee) discussed joint response measures to block the relocation of the military airfield at the Muan Committee office.

About 20 officials, including Mo Jong-guk, the Standing Chairman of the Muan Committee, and Hong Jin-seon, the Standing Chairman of the Hwaseong Committee, attended the meeting.

In his opening remarks, Mo Jong-guk, Chairman of the Muan Committee, said, “Hwaseong and Muan are joint victims of the military airfield relocation issue,” adding, “In the future, Suwon and Gwangju will focus on revising the Special Act on Military Airfield Relocation to facilitate the relocation, and to prepare for this, local governments in similar situations must unite their efforts. Today’s meeting is very meaningful as it marks the beginning of that cooperation.”

Following this, Hong Jin-seon, Chairman of the Hwaseong Committee, emphasized, “If the revision of the Special Act passes, it will become even more difficult to block the relocation of the military airfield,” and stressed, “To prevent the relocation, the two local governments must prepare joint response measures and take proactive action.”

The two city and county committees agreed to continuously cooperate in blocking the military airfield relocation, starting with the joint statement urging the withdrawal of the Special Act revision at the National Assembly Press Hall on the 8th.
