The Jeju District Court Criminal Division 3 (Presiding Judge Park Jun-seok) announced on the 2nd that A (29), who was indicted for violating the Special Act on the Treatment of Traffic Accidents, was sentenced to one year in prison.
The court stated the reason for sentencing, saying, "The defendant committed the same type of crime during the probation period," but "considering comprehensively that he reflected on his actions and reached an amicable agreement with the victim."
A is accused of hitting the vehicle of B (59, female), who was stopped, while driving under the influence near the intersection at the entrance of the oil market in Jungmun-dong, Seogwipo City, at around 2:10 a.m. on January 4.
At the time, A was reportedly driving without a license.
It was reported that B suffered injuries requiring two weeks of medical treatment, including concussion symptoms, due to the accident.
At the time of the accident, A's blood alcohol concentration was investigated to be 0.03%, which is the level for license suspension.
According to the police investigation, A was fined 3 million won for drunk driving in Ulsan in 2014, and in 2018, he was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence for fleeing the scene causing injury in Daejeon, making him currently a repeat offender.
