[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] Famous mukbang YouTuber Banzz sparked controversy over his attitude during a comeback live broadcast one year after receiving a fine for exaggerated advertising of health functional food efficacy.
On the 25th, Banzz started his live broadcast on his YouTube channel by saying, "It's been almost a year since I last broadcast."
He continued, "I wish the balance in my bank account was zero. Since I made mistakes and did wrong, it can't be helped, and it's right that I take responsibility," adding, "I have nothing to say, but right now, I wish it was zero."
He then shared an update, saying, "I've gained about 10kg recently. For a while, I really didn't want to eat. Even though I lost my appetite, I ate more than you guys," and added, "I had dropped to 59kg, but now I weigh about 70kg."
He also said, "People ask why my face looks so bad. When someone is worried or going through something bad, their expression doesn't look good. I unconsciously frown. At this rate, my muscles will stiffen."
Responding to a netizen's criticism saying, "I miss the old days, so please just disappear from the comeback," he apologized, saying, "That's right. I miss the old days. I miss the time before I did foolish things. Don't people often think, 'If I could go back to the past'? If I say I want to go back because I miss the old days, it's because I don't want to do foolish things."
However, when faced with a malicious comment saying, "Your acting is good," he reacted by saying, "If this is acting, then you're a f***ing bastard," which sparked controversy over his attitude.
He also responded sharply to netizens who used profanity.
He said, "Someone just said, 'The microphone sound is f***ing weak,' but I installed a new microphone today, so I don't know. If you put it this close, wouldn't you stop cursing? You're not just angry, you're f***ing angry, but since I put it this close, don't get mad."
Meanwhile, Banzz is a leading mukbang YouTuber in Korea who was fined 5 million won last August for violating the Health Functional Foods Act by falsely and exaggeratedly promoting the efficacy of health functional foods operated by his company.
