[Profile] Jeon Hyun-hee, Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] On the 26th, Jeon Hyun-hee, elected as the 7th Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, is a former member of the 18th and 20th National Assembly.

She has served as the Director of the Green Consumer Network Green Citizens' Rights Center, a member of the Environmental Committee and Women's Rights Committee of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society, and a director of the Korean Society of Medical Law.

Born in 1964, Chairperson Jeon graduated from Busan Teresa Girls' High School and majored in Dentistry at Seoul National University. She earned a master's degree in Medical Law from Korea University Graduate School.

Chairperson Jeon was the first to win a National Assembly seat in Seoul Gangnam-gu as a member of the Democratic Party in 24 years since Hong Sa-deok in 1992 during the 20th general election.

She once stated, "The most urgent issues in Gangnam-eul are transportation, real estate, and housing stability." She has a firm philosophy on livelihood policies.

The biggest task is to achieve the passage of the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act in the National Assembly, which the commission failed to accomplish during the tenure of former Chairperson Park.

Given her experience as a National Assembly member, there are expectations that she will be able to enforce this within the commission.

When the Anti-Graft Act was created in the past, the conflict of interest prevention section was omitted among the three categories of prohibition of solicitation, prohibition of receiving money or valuables, and conflict of interest prevention, and it has not been supplemented even after more than three years.

During former Chairperson Park's tenure, the corruption perception index rose 12 ranks over three years, and there is interest in whether Chairperson Jeon can raise it further.
