[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] Baek Jong-won pointed out Bucheon Long Pizza House, which received the worst grade in the hygiene management evaluation.
On the 24th, SBS variety show 'Baek Jong-won's Alley Restaurant' aired a '2020 Summer Special.' The episode depicted the story following Bucheon Long Pizza House receiving a D grade in the 'Hygiene Management Special' evaluation.
Baek Jong-won said, "Although the evaluation is based on personal judgment, in the case of hygiene inspections, a D grade according to hygiene company inspection standards is a serious problem. There are specific criteria and data, so there is no room for excuses." He added, "It's bitter for this place. Taste and hygiene are separate, but eventually, one follows the other. It means the management is lacking. There is a possibility that the taste will soon be affected, so the basic hygiene foundation must be solid."
In the scene where Baek Jong-won visits Bucheon Long Pizza House, the owner suddenly took off his apron and disappeared even though it was not break time. When Baek Jong-won asked why the owner was absent, an employee explained, "The owner went to find something but did not provide detailed information," which left Baek Jong-won bewildered.
The Long Pizza House owner said, "I am on my way to the hospital. I am going to renew my health certificate." He guessed Baek Jong-won's visit was because "things were not done properly."
Baek Jong-won criticized the owner for renewing a health certificate that had expired in January of this year after five months and for not properly managing the origin labeling, which is an important promise to consumers. Baek Jong-won expressed regret, saying, "This is a legal issue. Why has it changed like this?"
He then poured beer from a cup and showed with his own eyes the white residue inside. There was also beer scum at the bottom of the cup. He pointed out the black grime in the corners of the ice maker. More problematic was the water stains behind the ice maker where ice falls from above. Baek Jong-won highlighted the serious hygiene issues of the ice maker.
He was shocked to find glass shards under the cooking stove where pizzas are made. Baek Jong-won expressed his disappointment, saying, "I am embarrassed that I couldn't find this. This is someone I trusted and supported. This is negligence. It's not because they didn't know. Why did I like them?"
