The Cultural Heritage Administration and the Korea Cultural Heritage Keepers Federation will hold the "Cultural Heritage Dream Talk Concert" at 2 p.m. on the 22nd at the National Palace Museum. Under the theme "Cultural Heritage Keepers: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, Creating Greater Hope through Cultural Heritage," the event will explore the significance of Cultural Heritage Keepers Day (June 22). Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the on-site commemorative ceremony will be omitted. Various programs, including talks, will be replaced with online live streaming.
On stage will be Jeong Jae-sook, head of the Cultural Heritage Administration; Shin Byung-joo, professor at Konkuk University; Yoo Jin-seop, mayor of Jeongeup; and Kim Ho-tae, president of the Korea Cultural Heritage Keepers Federation, who will share stories about cultural heritage keeping. History lecturer Choi Tae-sung will participate via a pre-recorded broadcast filmed at Jeonju Archive and Yonggulam Hermitage in Naejangsa Temple, Jeongeup. He will tell stories about preserving the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty during the Imjin War. Broadcaster Sam Okyere will be appointed as an honorary foreign member. The event will be hosted by KBS announcer Choi Won-jung.
The Cultural Heritage Keepers movement began in April 2005 to encourage public participation in preserving cultural heritage. Currently, about 84,000 keepers are appointed, engaging in activities such as cleaning cultural heritage sites and their surroundings, conducting pre-inspections and patrols for heritage management, promoting cultural heritage, and providing equipment support and donations.
