[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] It has been reported that a personal information leak incident occurred in 'RentHome,' the rental registration system operated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
According to rental business operators and the industry on the 12th, from the afternoon of that day, when accessing RentHome, personal information of other people, not their own, is appearing.
One rental business operator said, "Since this morning, I have had continuous trouble accessing RentHome," adding, "Then suddenly after lunch, when I logged in, I saw reports filed by someone else, not mine."
In the case of one rental business operator residing in Sejong, when logging in, it was accessed under the name of a person living in Songpa-gu, Seoul, revealing that person's phone number, the first part of their resident registration number, and rental report details.
Currently, such cases are continuously being posted on online cafes where rental business operators mainly gather. One rental business operator said, "After RentHome authentication, I was logged in under the name of someone I do not know," adding, "This means my information is also being leaked, but RentHome is unreachable due to high call volume."
In response, a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport official said, "We are currently investigating the situation," adding, "Today, we sent notification messages to rental business operators regarding voluntary reporting until the end of June, and it seems that a large number of operators accessed the system at once, causing system overload."
