[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Yangsan City, Gyeongnam, held the '65th Memorial Day Ceremony' on the 6th at the Memorial Tower Plaza in Chunchoo Park to honor the spirits of the patriotic martyrs and war heroes who devoted and sacrificed for the nation.
This Memorial Day ceremony was scaled down with only Mayor Kim Il-gwon of Yangsan City, members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, heads of major institutions, and heads of veterans' organizations attending, in accordance with the 'practice of social distancing' to prevent and contain the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The ceremony proceeded in the order of the national anthem, a moment of silence for the patriotic martyrs and war heroes, flower offering and incense burning, memorial address, reading of a commemorative poem, and singing of the Memorial Day song.
Mayor Kim Il-gwon of Yangsan City said, "Although the scale of this year's ceremony was reduced, our gratitude and respect for the noble spirit of sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs who made today possible are greater than ever," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that the spirit of patriotism is passed down to our descendants."
