[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in India increased by 9,851 in one day on the 5th, reaching a cumulative total of 226,770, marking an all-time high.


The death toll also rose by 273, bringing the total to 6,348.


According to the Indian Ministry of Health, the number of confirmed cases has been increasing since June, with 8,909 on the 3rd, 9,304 on the 4th, and 90,581 on this day, showing a continuous rise for three consecutive days.


It is reported that the daily new confirmed cases and deaths in India reached record highs on this day.


In mid-April, the daily cases were around 1,000, but they rapidly increased in May, reaching up to 8,000 daily by the end of the month.


Meanwhile, the Indian government issued a 'COVID-19 lockdown order' on March 25 but has been gradually easing related restrictions since mid-last month.


Domestic flights and industrial facility operations have resumed in India, and starting from the 8th, shopping malls, restaurants, and hotels are also scheduled to reopen.
