[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The Financial Services Commission announced on the 5th that it has signed a business agreement with Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to foster digital finance professionals.


Attending the signing ceremony were Sohn Byung-doo, Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, Seo Jung-hyup, First Deputy Mayor of Seoul, and Shin Sung-chul, President of KAIST, among other officials.


The Financial Services Commission and Seoul Metropolitan Government will establish One IFC in Yeouido as the training venue for digital finance education and will spare no effort to support international-level digital finance education. KAIST will provide theoretical and practical digital finance courses and will also fulfill its own investment commitments without delay.


The agreement, signed to ensure stable project implementation, includes provisions for ▲leasing and preparing the training venue, ▲administrative and financial support for efficient education, ▲project evaluation and feedback, and ▲execution and settlement of subsidies.


The Digital Finance MBA program, which will commence in September, recorded a high competition rate of 14.4:1 through online recruitment of first-year students.


Applications for the Digital Finance Expert Course (non-degree), which offers specialized professional education on digital finance topics, will also be accepted online from the 8th of this month until the 14th of next month.


Sohn Byung-doo, Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, said, "The successful establishment of a digital finance system has become even more important due to COVID-19," adding, "We will spare no effort to support the nurturing of highly skilled professionals who understand the latest trends and technologies."


Seo Jung-hyup, First Deputy Mayor of Seoul, expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you to everyone who showed interest and participated in the recruitment of the first students for the Yeouido Graduate School of Finance," and added, "We will focus our attention and support on fostering digital finance professionals who will lead the new financial industry in the post-COVID era, thereby enhancing the overall competitiveness of Seoul's financial industry."
