Daegu City, New Semester School Food Poisoning Prevention and Daily Quarantine Inspection

Daegu City, New Semester School Food Poisoning Prevention and Daily Quarantine Inspection Daegu city inspection team checking the status of food poisoning prevention at school cafeterias last year.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 5th that from the 8th to the 17th, it will conduct joint inspections with related agencies targeting school cafeterias and related facilities to prevent food poisoning and strengthen daily quarantine measures in schools due to the late new semester.

In this joint inspection, 10 self-inspection teams composed of Daegu City, Daegu Regional Food and Drug Administration, district and county officials, and consumer food hygiene inspectors will sequentially inspect 107 locations including elementary, middle, and high school cafeterias and food ingredient suppliers.

Facilities vulnerable to hygiene issues such as schools providing two or more meals, schools with a history of food poisoning, companies violating food hygiene laws, and companies supplying school food ingredients are the main inspection targets. Due to the response to COVID-19 related tasks, inspections for schools will be concentrated in the second half of the year.

Additionally, education on practicing daily quarantine measures, including worker fever checks and basic rules such as mask-wearing to prevent COVID-19, will also be conducted concurrently during this inspection.

Kim Jae-dong, Director of the Daegu City Health and Welfare Bureau, stated, "This year, the number of food poisoning patients in Daegu City decreased by about 79% compared to the same month last year (2 cases, 12 people) due to strict adherence to personal hygiene rules." He added, "However, as high-temperature phenomena are expected to continue due to the recent heatwave advisory, we are strengthening management and supervision of facilities vulnerable to food poisoning such as group cafeterias."
