[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hong Kong's anti-government protesters have alleged that they were tortured while being illegally detained.
According to foreign media on the 2nd, Hong Kong's Demosist? Party claimed that three individuals were subjected to verbal abuse and physical assault while detained in a government correctional facility blind spot without closed-circuit television (CCTV), violating their human rights.
Joshua Wong, Secretary of the Demosist? Party, stated, "The treatment of detainees constitutes torture as defined by the United Nations Convention Against Torture," adding, "Accordingly, we have sent a letter of protest to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights."
In response, the Hong Kong police stated that they did not use excessive physical force against the protesters and have been exercising restraint amid violent demonstrations.
