[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases related to the Coupang Bucheon Logistics Center has risen to a total of 111.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 31st at 12 PM that the total number of confirmed cases linked to the Coupang Logistics Center was 111. This is an increase of 3 cases from 108 as of 11 AM the previous day.
By region, there are 48 cases in Gyeonggi, 44 in Incheon, and 19 in Seoul. Among all confirmed cases, 75 are logistics center employees, and 36 are their contacts.
Separately from the Coupang Logistics Center, small-scale cluster infections with unknown transmission routes within the region have also increased.
Since the first confirmed case emerged yesterday at 'Yeonana News Class,' an announcer academy located in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, 3 additional cases have been reported, bringing the total related confirmed cases to 4.
Four more confirmed cases related to the Korea Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) have been added, increasing the total to 8 (4 in Seoul and 4 in Gyeonggi).
The number of confirmed cases related to the instructor's family at Yonseinaro Academy in Yeouido, Seoul, increased by 2, totaling 11. The additional confirmed cases include one person who visited the real estate agency operated by the instructor's family and one contact in the same profession.
Additionally, the cumulative number of confirmed cases related to the Itaewon clubs reached 270 as of 12 PM today, an increase of 1 from the previous day. The additional confirmed case is a family member of a student at Seum Academy in Incheon, where an academy instructor infected after visiting the club works.
Among the 270 confirmed cases, 96 visited the clubs, and 174 are secondary or further contacts infected by them.
As local infection cases continue mainly in the metropolitan area, health authorities have repeatedly urged people to refrain from going out, attending gatherings, and religious events, and to practice social distancing in daily life as much as possible.
At a briefing yesterday, Kwon Jun-wook, Deputy Director of the CDCH, said, "Overall, local transmissions appear to be slightly decreasing on the surface, but there are still many cases with unclear transmission routes. The next two weeks are a very critical period to curb the spread of infections in the metropolitan area. Residents of the metropolitan area may find it inconvenient and difficult, but except for essential outings such as hospital visits, please refrain from gatherings and events, and if unavoidable, strictly follow social distancing and hygiene rules."
Meanwhile, among the 27 new confirmed cases as of midnight today, 12 were imported cases excluding 15 local transmissions. By country, there were 6 from the Americas, 2 each from Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, and 1 each from Europe and the United Arab Emirates, according to the CDCH.
The 15 local cases were all from the metropolitan area: 7 in Gyeonggi, 5 in Seoul, and 3 in Incheon.
