Ministry of Industry at IEA Meeting: "Must Address Power Supply Uncertainty in Preparation for Prolonged Pandemic"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Ju Young-jun, Director General of the Energy Resources Office at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, attended the International Energy Agency (IEA) high-level roundtable on the 29th to discuss investments for a stable and sustainable power system.


This high-level roundtable was the second virtual meeting held ahead of the IEA Clean Energy Transition High-Level Meeting scheduled for July. It was organized to advance discussions on various topics among IEA member countries.


At this meeting, representatives from IEA member countries and companies exchanged views on ▲ the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on the power sector ▲ the necessity of investments in the power sector for clean energy transition ▲ opportunities for international cooperation and collaboration.


Director General Ju stated, "It is important for the government to respond to uncertainties that may arise in power supply and demand in preparation for the prolonged and persistent pandemic," adding, "It is necessary to expand investments in energy storage systems and improve systems in anticipation of an increased share of renewable energy sources."
