[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] On the 29th, the Justice Party issued a statement regarding the press conference held by Yoon Mi-hyang, the elected member of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "It is fortunate that she expressed her position before the opening of the National Assembly," and "We hope that doubts will be resolved through the prosecution's investigation."

Kim Jong-chul, senior spokesperson of the Justice Party, said in a briefing on the same day, "Although there is some regret that the position was not expressed earlier after the issues were raised, we consider it fortunate that the position was made clear before the National Assembly convened. Since Yoon has stated that she will sincerely cooperate with the prosecution's investigation, we hope that the doubts held by the public will be resolved during the subsequent process."

Regarding the Democratic Party, he said, "It is regrettable that while the suspicions have grown to this extent, the responsibility has been shifted solely onto Yoon as an individual, and the party has been inactive in efforts to resolve the suspicions. As the ruling party with an absolute majority of seats, they should have taken a more responsible stance, according to the Justice Party's judgment."

Kim also stated, "Since the criticism of Yoon came from Grandmother Lee Yong-soo, a victim of the 'comfort women' issue, we hope that deeper discussions will continue regarding the future of the movement to resolve the 'comfort women' issue. The movement to resolve the 'comfort women' issue must continue actively to set history right and fulfill the wishes of the victims."

He also pointed out that the issue stems from satellite parties. He said, "In the process of Yoon participating in politics as a member of the National Assembly, there was the problem of her hurried candidacy as a proportional representative through a hastily formed satellite party. In this process, there were issues such as communication problems with the parties involved in the civic movement and the lack of calm organization and verification of various matters that she should clarify as a public figure." He added, "We believe that this incident should serve as an opportunity for reflection and review of these issues."

Kim further stated, "Since Yoon apologized to the public while denying any personal wrongdoing and expressed her intention to sincerely cooperate with the prosecution's investigation, we hope that all the issues raised so far will be transparently revealed going forward."
