Temporary Closure of Public Facilities Due to COVID-19 Resurgence...Guidance for Residents on Mask Wearing and Avoiding Non-Essential Outings to Follow Quarantine Rules
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) announced the temporary closure of various facilities directly or indirectly operated by the district, including Heojun Museum and Gangseo-gu Olympic Sports Center.
On the 6th, social distancing measures were relaxed to everyday distancing, but COVID-19 is spreading again due to cluster infections recently occurring at Itaewon clubs and the Coupang Bucheon logistics center.
Within a few days, 9 confirmed cases occurred due to the Coupang Bucheon logistics center, raising concerns about community spread. Therefore, the district decided to temporarily close various related facilities.
The suspension period is from 6 PM on May 29 to midnight (24:00) on June 14, totaling 17 days. The district emphasized the need for active cooperation and participation from residents despite the inconvenience during this period.
First, strengthened quarantine measures will lead to the temporary closure of indoor and outdoor sports facilities, public libraries, welfare centers, and others operated by the district.
Accordingly, ongoing exhibitions and participation programs at Gangseo Cultural Center, Heojun Museum, and Gyeomjae Jeongseon Art Museum, which are temporarily closed, will all be suspended.
Also, eight public sports facilities operated by Gangseo-gu Facilities Management Corporation, including Gangseo-gu Olympic Sports Center, Magok Sports Center, Magok Badminton Court, and Gonghang-dong Sports Center, as well as Gangseo-gu Community Hall, Gomdallae Cultural Welfare Center, and five youth study rooms, will be temporarily closed.
Public sports facilities such as Gaehwa Soccer Field will also be temporarily closed. Various community sports competitions organized by organizations under the Gangseo-gu Sports Council, such as the District Mayor's Soccer Tournament, will be canceled or postponed until after June 14.
Eight public libraries, including Gomdallae Library, which operate under everyday distancing measures, will also be temporarily closed.
However, to help residents who may feel depressed due to COVID-19 gain mental relaxation through reading, a drive-thru and clean book lending service will be implemented.
The drive-thru and clean book lending service allows residents to pre-apply for books and receive them either while seated in their car at a designated location (Drive-thru) or by picking them up directly at the designated library entrance.
Applications can be made by logging into the Gangseo-gu Integrated Library website and applying through the drive-thru and clean book lending service bulletin board. Pickup times can be selected between 10 AM to 12 PM or 3 PM to 5 PM.
Mayor Noh Hyun-song urged residents to refrain from unnecessary outings, gatherings, and events to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and to avoid going out except for essential reasons such as purchasing daily necessities or visiting medical institutions.
He emphasized, "There was a near spread to kindergartens and daycare centers due to infections from an art academy instructor in Gangseo-gu to a kindergarten child, and from a mother infected at the Coupang Bucheon logistics center to a daycare child. Fortunately, all 411 classified contacts wore masks, preventing further infections," and stressed the importance of wearing masks when going out and in multi-use facilities.
