[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI ended the week flat amid concerns over US-China tensions surrounding the Hong Kong Security Law. The KOSDAQ index also closed slightly higher, supported by net buying from foreign investors.
On the 29th, the KOSPI closed at 2029.60, up 1.06 points (0.05%) from the previous day. The KOSPI started the day lower, maintained a slight decline during the session, then turned upward around 2 p.m. and finished the day slightly higher.
Looking at trading trends by investor type, individual investors were net buyers with 193.2 billion KRW, while foreign and institutional investors were net sellers with 202.5 billion KRW and 20.7 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, transportation equipment (2.74%), machinery (2.18%), and construction (2.08%) rose, while securities (-3.48%), insurance (-3.04%), and services (-1.65%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Hyundai Mobis (3.94%), SK Telecom (1.89%), Samsung Biologics (1.80%), and Celltrion (1.18%) rose, whereas NAVER (-6.03%), SK Hynix (-2.86%), Kakao (-1.31%), and LG Household & Health Care (-1.08%) fell.
In the KOSPI market, 385 stocks rose, including one that hit the upper price limit, 461 stocks fell with no stocks hitting the lower price limit, and 59 stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index also closed slightly higher. It started the day lower, fluctuated around the flat line during the session, then, like the KOSPI, turned upward around 2 p.m. and extended gains to close at 713.68, up 4.93 points (0.70%) from the previous day.
By investor type, foreign investors were net buyers with 168.2 billion KRW, while individual and institutional investors were net sellers with 100.6 billion KRW and 44.7 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, transportation equipment and parts (4.01%), broadcasting services (2.77%), and distribution (2.74%) rose, while telecommunications services (-2.69%), computer services (-2.38%), and transportation (-1.23%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, HL Biopharma (8.35%) rose nearly 10%, Alteogen (6.57%), Celltrion Pharm (6.26%), Celltrion Healthcare (5.09%), EcoPro BM (4.53%), and ITM Semiconductor (3.40%) also rose. Meanwhile, Seegene (-3.15%), SK Materials (-1.22%), and Studio Dragon (-0.91%) declined.
In the KOSDAQ market, 479 stocks rose, including one that hit the upper price limit, 762 stocks fell with no stocks hitting the lower price limit, and 86 stocks remained unchanged.
