Changwon-si Selected for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Smart Town Challenge Project'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 29th that it has been finally selected as a preliminary project target for the 2020 'Smart Town Challenge Project' conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for local governments nationwide.


With this preliminary project selection, the city will receive 300 million KRW in national funding to establish a specialized smart town master plan by the end of this year. If selected for the main project through next year's follow-up evaluation by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, 4 billion KRW (50% national funding, 50% local funding) will be invested.


In this contest, the city proposed four strategic smart services?'Have You Visited Service', 'Have You Tried Service', 'Have You Seen Service', and 'Infrastructure Establishment'?targeting Jinhae Marine Park and Myeongdong Village under the theme of 'Smart Town of Sun and Light.' It was evaluated as an excellent proposal project that can strengthen regional competitiveness by utilizing local characteristics and regional governance.


The city plans to actively reflect the opinions of residents of Myeongdong and Sampo Villages around the project site and related experts in the master plan, and develop a tourism platform that can be linked with the surrounding commercial districts, as well as specialized content that attracts tourists and increases their stay time.


Heo Seong-mu, mayor of Changwon City, said, "Based on the Changwon Smart City Plan established in 2019, we are promoting various smart city projects," adding, "We will do our best to prepare well for this preliminary project and transform the Jinhae Marine Park area into the world's best 'smart tourism' region, establishing it as a new landmark of the area."
