Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled Holds Duo Day with 12 European Embassies in Korea

12 Disabled University Students Participate in One-Day Job Experience at Embassy

Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled Holds Duo Day with 12 European Embassies in Korea

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled and 12 embassies of the European Union in Korea jointly held Duo Day from the 25th to the 29th.

Duo Day is an event mainly held in Europe, where participants visit companies or institutions employing people with disabilities and work together for a day to showcase the abilities of people with disabilities and improve awareness of disability employment.

In this third year of the domestic Duo Day organized by the agency and the embassies, various events were held simultaneously, including internship opportunities for university students with disabilities, visits to subsidiary-type standard workplaces for the disabled, and small concerts by artists with developmental disabilities.

The internship for university students with disabilities invited students to the embassies to provide a one-day job experience opportunity, with 12 participants this year. The students had the chance to broaden their horizons by experiencing the work of diplomatic institutions, which are usually difficult to access, at the embassies of Belgium, the European Union Delegation, Finland, France, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

Additionally, on the 28th, ambassadors from Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Finland, the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Poland, along with deputy ambassadors and embassy officials from Ireland, Italy, Spain, and Sweden, visited ‘With Dream,’ a subsidiary-type standard workplace for the disabled operated by Amorepacific. They toured the workplace and directly performed tasks of disabled workers to deepen their understanding of Korea’s subsidiary-type standard workplace system.

Director Cho Jong-ran said, “Through the Duo Day event, we had a meaningful time experiencing the jobs of disabled workers firsthand,” adding, “We will continue to create opportunities to improve global awareness of disabilities by promoting Korea’s exemplary disability employment system in various ways.”
