[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office is investigating a case in which a civic group requested a probe into allegations related to Yoon Mi-hyang, the proportional representative-elect of the Democratic Party of Korea (former director of the Justice and Memory Foundation), regarding her apartment purchases.
On the 29th, according to the civic group "Action Alliance for Establishing the Rule of Law" (Beopse-ryeon), the case in which the group filed a complaint with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office against Yoon, stating, "Considering that a civic group activist with a low salary purchased five apartments entirely in cash, there is a very high possibility that embezzlement or breach of trust was committed," was assigned to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office.
Through the request for investigation, the group stated, "Yoon began her activities in 1992 with the Korean Council for the Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery by Japan (Jeongdaehyeop, the predecessor of the Justice and Memory Foundation), and around that time, fundraising activities started at the 'National Movement Headquarters to Help the Comfort Women Grandmothers.' Since then, it is said that Yoon purchased five apartments entirely in cash."
The representative claimed, "Yoon has not provided any satisfactory explanation regarding the process of accumulating wealth, which is utterly incomprehensible. Coincidentally, abnormal wealth formation began when Yoon joined Jeongdaehyeop in 1992 and started fundraising activities."
Meanwhile, Beopse-ryeon also filed a complaint with the prosecution on the 18th against Yoon, who is suspected of purchasing a shelter prepared for comfort women victims at a high price and then selling it at a low price, on charges of breach of trust.
