Enhancing Nighttime Safety and Preventing Light Pollution with High-Efficiency Cut-Off LED Lights
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is promoting the "Residential Area Light Environment Improvement Project," which replaces 570 old sodium security lights in the residential alleys of Dunchon 2-dong and Gildong with eco-friendly LED security lights.
The goal is to improve lighting to prevent light pollution and create a bright and safe environment even at night.
The existing sodium security lights emit light in all directions, making it difficult to accurately distinguish objects and vulnerable to crime prevention, and they have low energy efficiency, causing power waste.
The newly replaced cut-off type LED security lights have excellent color rendering, allowing visibility at night similar to daytime levels, and direct light only toward the road, reducing disturbances such as sleep disruption and glare.
Additionally, compared to the existing sodium lights, power consumption is reduced by about half, resulting in high energy-saving effects.
The construction is scheduled to be completed by November.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "Since security lights are highly effective in enhancing resident safety and preventing crime, we plan to replace the remaining old sodium security lights with high-efficiency, energy-saving LED security lights by 2021," adding, "We will strive to create an environment where residents can feel safe walking even on dark nights."
