Gangseo-gu, Pre-Inspection of Odor-Concerned Businesses for Summer Heatwave Preparedness

Focused Inspection of 59 Public Sector and Community-Based Workplaces

Gangseo-gu, Pre-Inspection of Odor-Concerned Businesses for Summer Heatwave Preparedness

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is taking proactive measures to address odor issues caused by rising temperatures by conducting pre-inspections of odor-prone facilities in the area.

The district will focus inspections on 9 public sector odor-emitting facility installation sites and 50 daily life-related businesses that residents frequently encounter.

The priority targets include ▲1 water reclamation center ▲6 waste transfer stations ▲2 agricultural and marine products markets, while general targets include ▲46 maintenance and transportation businesses ▲1 factory-type laundry ▲3 printing and model manufacturing sites.

For the 9 priority sites, joint inspection teams of three people will be formed in cooperation with Seoul City and the Health and Environment Research Institute (BoHwanYeon), while two district office staff members will conduct self-inspections at the 50 general sites.

The inspection areas will focus on whether odor-emitting facility installation projects have been reported, verification of facility details, and whether odor prevention facilities are operating normally.

In particular, for priority targets, odor pollution tests will be conducted after sample collection, and improvements will be recommended if standards are exceeded.

Separately, 193 businesses emitting environmental pollutants will also be guided and inspected alongside the environmental monitoring team to thoroughly respond to complaints about daily life odors.

Since this is a special inspection in preparation for the heatwave, administrative guidance will be prioritized, but businesses found with serious violations will face administrative actions according to relevant regulations.

A district official stated, “With this summer expected to bring record-breaking heatwaves, odor issues from businesses closely related to residents' daily lives are expected to cause significant inconvenience. We will do our best to create a cleaner and more pleasant environment through this inspection.”

Last year, there were 16 complaints related to odor-emitting facility installation projects and 18 complaints about daily life odors.
