[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Although COVID-19 spread since December last year, Jindo-gun, a clean area, achieved quarantine success without a single suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case through thorough promotion and prevention.

The Jindo-gun Safety Life Support Division spared no effort in providing full support with quarantine supplies such as masks, disinfectants, and non-contact thermometers to facilities including village halls, local daycare centers, academies, and religious facilities to practice dedicated (high-intensity) social distancing and prevent and stop the spread of COVID-19.

Jindo-gun is analyzed to have achieved great effects by conducting large-scale quarantine of multi-use facilities in the area in cooperation with all departments and offices, towns and townships, as well as police, fire departments, and volunteer fire brigades.

In particular, even during the transition to daily quarantine, a thorough quarantine posture was maintained, urging people with fever or respiratory symptoms (cough, phlegm, nasal congestion, etc.) to rest at home for 3 to 4 days while refraining from outside activities, keep a healthy distance of two arm lengths between people, wash hands for 30 seconds, cough into sleeves, ventilate more than twice daily, disinfect regularly, minimize face-to-face meetings, and follow daily quarantine guidelines such as practicing social distancing in restaurants and cafes.

Kim Sang-deuk, head of the Safety Life Support Division, said, “The reason Jindo has been able to respond well to COVID-19 without confirmed cases so far is thanks to the high level of awareness of the residents and the community spirit of caring for each other,” and added, “We appreciate the cooperation of the residents and ask that, since COVID-19 is not yet over, daily quarantine be actively practiced.”
