[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea increased by 58 on the 29th. All new confirmed cases occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on that day, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases rose by 58 from the previous day to 11,402.


The number of new confirmed cases recorded in the 30s on the 10th and 11th after the cluster infection originating from Itaewon clubs spread, then dropped to the 20s from the 12th to the 15th, and further decreased to the 10s from the 16th to the 19th. However, it rose again to the 30s on the 20th and then decreased to the 10s on the 21st.


From the 22nd to the 24th, the number went back up to the 20s, then dropped to the 10s on the 25th and 26th. On the 27th, with additional confirmed cases centered around workers at the Coupang logistics center, the number rose to the 40s, and the previous day recorded cases in the 70s.


All new patients were confirmed in the Seoul metropolitan area: 20 in Seoul, 18 in Incheon, and 20 in Gyeonggi Province.


Of these, 55 cases were domestic transmissions and 3 were imported. Domestic cases were distributed as 19 in Seoul, 18 in Incheon, and 18 in Gyeonggi Province. Imported cases included 1 in Seoul and 2 in Gyeonggi Province.


The number of patients who have been declared recovered and released from isolation reached 10,363, an increase of 23 from the previous day. The death toll remained at 269, unchanged from the previous day.
