[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized the timely opening of the 21st National Assembly and warned the United Future Party, saying, "We will never tolerate extending the wrongful practices of the 20th National Assembly into the 21st."
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 29th, Lee said, "The 21st National Assembly will begin tomorrow, carrying the task of overcoming the national crisis caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19)," adding, "Delays in opening are unacceptable. The election of the Speaker must be completed by the 5th, and the election of committee chairs must be completed by the 8th."
He continued, "A working National Assembly is the mandate of the people from the 21st general election," emphasizing, "Our party will never tolerate extending the wrongful practices of the 20th National Assembly into the 21st National Assembly."
He also earnestly appealed to the United Future Party, saying, "Please prove that you are a group of changed politics," but criticized, "However, judging from recent statements in the media, many still have not escaped the delusions of the 20th National Assembly."
Lee said, "Emergency disaster relief funds have been distributed to 97% of households as of yesterday. There is a psychological effect of social consumption recovery in various places," and added, "The party and government plan to prepare the Korean New Deal and the third supplementary budget and submit them to the National Assembly."
He continued, "The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, which had decreased to single digits, is increasing again," and urged, "The party and government will not relax vigilance and will establish a stronger management and supervision system for crowded workplaces and high-risk facilities. Please also put effort into on-site inspections."
Meanwhile, Lee did not comment on the press conference scheduled for the afternoon by Yoon Mi-hyang, the Democratic Party elected member.
